How many of you guys would still attend church if you couldn’t wear a weave? If your answer was not me then you probably wouldn’t want to attend Pastor A.J. Amir’s church at Resurrecting Faith in Waco, TX.
Pastor Amir just banned women from wearing weaves to his church. He feels like the extensions present a false image of black women and the ones who wear them have low self-esteem. Here’s what Pastor Amir told AmericaPreachers.com:
Our Black women are getting weaves trying to be something and someone they are not. Be real with yourself is all I’m saying. Long hair don’t care. What kind of mess is that? I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not IN their head. I lead a church where our members are struggling financially. I mean really struggling. Yet, a 26 year old mother in my church has a $300 weave on her head. NO. I will not be quiet about this.
All of this probably stems from Pastor Amir’s upbringing. He was raised in a very strict Islamic household. But we have to disagree with him on this one. We think it’s very distasteful for a man to dictate how a woman should wear her hair. Since when has the Pastor’ responsibility been to focus on whether the women in the church are wearing weaves or not ? The focus should only be feeding his members the word of the Lord. As a 26 years old mother you should know whether your finances permit you to get a $300 hairdo or not and that isn’t Pastor Amir’s responsibility.
Pastor Amir realizes that he can not control whether women still wear weaves to his church but he strongly disapproves of it. Chile my hair needs to be snatched in church, out of church, wherever so I guess I won’t be sitting in Pastor Amir’s sanctuary.
