In case you missed it, Zendaya Coleman will no longer be taking on the role of Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime film.
Just like Teyana Taylor, Zendaya dropped out of the film due to the fact that Aaliyah’s family wasn’t 100% on board with the project even after she tried to get in contact with them. To further complicate the situation there were some issues with the music rights and Zendaya felt like it wasn’t being handled delicately. In a series of Instagram videos Zendaya explains all of this and sends the new actress well wishes.
Disney actress Alexandra Shipp will be taking on the role of Aaliyah in the movie set to be released this fall. Previously, fans complained that Zendaya wasn’t “black” enough and didn’t think she was a good fit. Zendaya hopes that Alexandra won’t have to endure that same criticism.
Judging from the photos it looks like the new girl has Aaliyah down pat.
